Morning Pujas at Guruvayur




Guruvayur regular Pujas are different from other temples.
Guruvayur has five daily pujas and three Seevelis.
Morning session starts with
 
Waking up Lord Guruvayurappan
🌺🌼🕉️🌼🌺
The entrance to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple opens at 3 in the morning. At that 
time, the temple would be reverberating with Narayaniyam written by Melpattur Narayana .
Bhattathiripad, Harinamakirtham written by Thunchath Ezhuthachan, Jnanapana written by 
Poonthanam Namboothiri, besides sankhu-nadam (blowing conch), Thakil and Nadaswaram music
 
 Next is Nirmalya darsanam
🌺🌼🕉️🌼🌺
Devotees see the idol of Lord Guruvayurappan adorning the previous niht garlands. 
This darsanam is called Nirmalya Darsanam. Nirmalya Darsanam is from 3.00 am to 3.20 am.
 
Third is Anointing with oil
🌺🌼🕉️🌼🌺
After removing the garlands of the previous day, the idol is anointed with sesame oil. This oil 
is offered to the devotees in a pleasing manner. Guruvayoorappan oil is considered to be good
for rheumatism.
 
Divine Bath is next.

After wipe off all the oil the dust of Nenmeni Waka is sprinkled on the idol. This is the famous
 "vaka-charth" The recital of chanting continues while anointing with theertham filled in conch first
and in a golden bowl. This is the theertham of the Lord later distributed to devotees . The flower 
garlanding follows. God is offered flowers, jaggery and red banana. It is open from 3:20 am to 
3:30 pm.
  
Then comes Flower offering

The god is decorated. The walkway will be closed for this. The devotee is allowed to stand inside 
the Nalambalam even though he has no chance to see god at this time.
 
Usha: Puja begins then

Usha puja is a closed door puja. Offers a very sweety poridge, butter, pred banana, sugar and 
water etc Usha Puja is from 4.15 to 4.30. After that it is darsanam timetill 5.45 AM.
This concludes the first puja session.
